Ecobuild 2009
This morning, I headed down to London on the very early (yawn!) train on a mission. The first was to meet up with Clemmie and visit the Ecobuild event which was on at Earl’s Court, the second was to fetch my passport and the third was to meet up for a few beers with an old mate of mine that I used to work with who has moved to London. Busy day!
Ecobuild was AMAZING! The place was huge, with loads of companies, some green and some just claiming to be green, flogging all sorts of weird and wonderful technology - a lot of which was big and rather expensive. Lots of companies doing green roofs, lots of companies doing solar panels. We spoke to loads of people but the most interesting conversation, I thought, was with a guy on lime rendering and building with straw bales. The most innovative and unique was the small business entrepreneurs - one was using recycled glass bottles to make tiles (awesome!), one was using recycled plasic bottles to create chandeliers (fantastic!) and another was using coloured wellies to create plastic work surfaces - got to have some of them!!!
There was so much to see and the day went so quickly, that we ran out of time. The freebies went down well though, with each of us receiving a pot of seedum from a very nice man at one of the green roof stands that we had to carry around with us all day, a packet of meadow seeds, stress balls and mints. Clemmie also managed to stock up on pens for the rest of the year, not to mention the bar of fudge that found its way into her bag out of a stove!
Don’t ask!!
A good day all round, and with my passport in hand and one too many beers down my thoat, I headed back home on the train with my head spinning with all the things we’d seen and a bag full of (hopefully) useful info.
